Group evaluation:

Group opinion and why select these places.

We had chosen Yee Fatt Tea Shop as out target for the assignment. There will be few reasons for us to make this decision.

First, Yee Fatt Tea Shop has a rich legacy crossing over three generations; it has located at the same shop lot which opposite Methodist Girls' School (MGS) on Jalan Kampar (now renamed Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun) all this while.

Almost half a century old, their signature Hainanese curry mee has continued to dominant as a highest rank of curry mee in Ipoh. Still, they have managed to maintain the quality of their curry noodles after all these years. Today it is cooked by the second and third generations of the Hainanese family running the place. Without it, Ipoh will be colourless in the scene in curry mee.

Besides, for breakfast, they serve not only curry noodles, but also steamed glutinous rice with chicken and mushrooms otherwise better known as lor mai gai, and lighter bites like egg tarts and yam puffs. Other than that, they also server herbal tea egg which is a sweetened tea filled with various type of herbs and rock sugar.

Yee Fatt Tea Shop has a deep and pressure history background and they are still serving the best quality of curry mee to customers, these is the reasons that it had been chosen as our target to conduct our assignment.

Business model.

A business model can be defined as the methods a firm to generate revenue in its projected plans. It can be simple or very complex for a restaurant's business model, it can be simple as to make money by cooking and serving food to hungry customers. However, in this assignment, the restaurant chosen by us is Yee Fatt Curry Noodles House and Ipoh “Dai Shu Geok” Big Tree Foot. These two restaurants are applying brick and mortar business model. A brick and mortar business is refers to a business that operates from a physical storefront, as opposed to other common retailing approaches such as mail order catalogs or online purchasing.

Yee Fatt Curry Noodles House is using bricks and mortar business model to generate revenue and enhance reputation. It was an old shop which located beside the main road, this strategic location could be serve as a marketing. For many businesses, the location of the business combined with good word of mouth is all the marketing they need. Besides, strategic location will be the cheapest way to promote their business. Yee Fatt Curry Noodles House is able to provide good customer service than other type of operation structure due to it has physical presence. This can bring visibility and a sense of trust to customers as it shows that the owner of the business is financially secured sufficient to have a shop. Research has shown that 86% of customers are willing to pay more for the meal if they have got great customer service.

Basic approach used in marketing an advertising.

Yee Fatt has never made any advertisements purposely, nor adopted any special marketing strategies. They just simply want to serve customers with delicious dishes instead of profiting from them. Thus, customers could feel the genuine sincerity from the chefs while savoring the renowned curry noodles. What makes Yee Fatt to gain popularity even without any advertisements or marketing strategies is the powerful word-of-mouth. Since their curry noodles are specially served with curry paste instead of ordinary curry soup, at the same time fit most of the customers’ taste, when customers are satisfied with the delicacy and the unique texture of the pasty curry, they would spread out positive word-of-mouth.

Recommendations to improve businesses through e-commerce.

The less famous restaurant compared to Big Tree Foot, which is the Yee Fatt Restaurant could invite some crews from food-hunting programme to conduct interviews on them. Other than airing these interviews on television, they could also be shared on the social media websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Google+ and so on to raise awareness of the public.
